Composer & Live Musician
for our new stage adaptation of Percy Pengelly and the Wibble Wobble

We are looking to expand our creative team with an enthusiastic and engaging Composer & Live Musician for our upcoming stage adaptation of ‘Percy Pengelly and the Wibble Wobble’.

Percy Pengelly and the Wibble Wobble is a Cornish children’s book written by Jenny Steele Scolding and illustrated by Andy McPherson. The book was published in 2014. Cousin Jack’s currently hold exclusive rights for a stage adaptation.

Our intention is to perform the show in a canvas, big-top style tent to a maximum audience of 200 children and their families at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens in Penzance, Cornwall across a two week run. Artists currently involved in the project include: Bec Applebee, Grace & Nick Murdoch, Jonathan Bray, Iga Drzymkowska and Richard Curnow.

We would expect this to be the first phase of the project and that the production would have a life beyond the initial performance run.

It's a sad day when Percy Pengelly, the daring tightrope walker, has to say goodbye to the circus. He looks for a job where he can use his special skills, and finds his new life is full of surprises. A cornish tale where you'll find circus thrills, giddy rooftop adventures and an exciting rescue at sea.
Expectations

We would like the Composer & Live Musician to be comfortable working collaboratively with the director and performers during two separate weeks of Research and Development and during the rehearsal period. Other members of the team have musical ability although the Composer & Live Musician would be expected to lead all aspects of the creation and delivery of the music involved in the production.

Dates

R&D: w/c 27 January 2020

Rehearsals & Performances: 16 March to 13 April 2020

Fee

£3000.00 (£600.00 per working week)

Although this fee is calculated on the number of weeks of R&D, rehearsal and performance we would be happy to negotiate ‘out of the rehearsal room’ time if preferred by the chosen candidate.

Please be aware this fee is inclusive and there is no additional funding for travel or accommodation. Our work focuses on supporting professional artists with a connection to Cornwall.

Who are Cousin Jack’s?

We create work to inspire children and their families. Following the success of our much-loved stage adaptation of The Mousehole Cat, which this year tours to the US before returning back to Cornwall for a two week run we are now looking to develop a new show.

Cousin Jack’s is led by Artistic Director Guy Watson. The company is steered by a board of advisors: Emma Gibson (Miracle Theatre), Kirsty Cotton (Hall for Cornwall), Oliver Grey (Illyria), Jonathan Bray (Trebah Garden), Bethany Lyne (C365), Sarah Waller (Rio) & Shazz Andrew (Scary Little Girls).
